Loaded Trolley’s Massive Costco Australia Comparison – Week 2

Week 2 of the ‘Massive Costco Australia Comparison’ has been and gone and the data has been tabulated. Here are the numbers from Week 2 (8th January to 14th January 2014):

 Fruit and Vegetable

Compared to Coles

  • Coles was 16% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Coles had better prices on 3 of the 12 lines compared. All were noted as sale items.
  • Coles had 1 line on special that was more expensive than Costco.

Compared to Woolworths

  • Woolworths was 12% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Woolworths had better prices on 4 of the 12 lines compared. None were noted as sale items.

 Meat, Poultry and Seafood

Compared to Coles

  • Coles was 30% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Coles did not have better prices on any of the 12 lines compared.

Compared to Woolworths

  • Woolworths was 29% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Woolworths had a better price on 1 of the 12 lines compared. It was not noted as a sale item.

 Other Grocery

Note that only 63 lines are compared this week as Costco was out of stock on one line item.

Compared to Coles

  • Coles was 32% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Coles had better prices on 2 of the 63 lines compared. Of those none were on special.
  • Coles had 12 lines on special that were more expensive than Costco.

Compared to Woolworths

  • Woolworths was 31% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Woolworths had better prices on 7 of the 64 lines compared. Of those 6 were on special.
  • Coles had 14 lines on special that were more expensive than Costco.

 Liquor

Compared to First Choice Liquor (only 6 lines compared due to data availability)

  • First Choice was 11% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • First Choice did not have better prices on any of the 6 lines compared.
  • First Choice had 3 lines on special that were more expensive than Costco.

Compared to Dan Murphy’s

  • Dan Murphy’s was 4% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Dan Murphy’s had better prices on 2 of the 8 lines compared. None of those 6 were noted as on special.
