  • Coles was 25% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Coles had better prices on 2 of the 12 lines compared. Both were noted as sale items.
  • Coles had 1 line on special that was more expensive than Costco.

Compared to Woolworths

  • Woolworths was 36% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Woolworths had better prices on 2 of the 12 lines compared. None were noted as sale items.

Meat, Poultry and Seafood

Compared to Coles

  • Coles was 27% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Coles had a better price on 1 of the 12 lines compared. It was noted as a sale item.
  • Coles had 1 line on special that was more expensive than Costco.

Compared to Woolworths (note: only 9 lines compared due to availability of data online)

  • Woolworths was 25% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Woolworths had a better price on 1 of the 9 lines compared. It was a sale item.

Other Grocery

Compared to Coles

  • Coles was 35% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Coles had better prices on 5 of the 64 lines compared. Of those 2 were on special.
  • Coles had 11 lines on special that were more expensive than Costco.

Compared to Woolworths

  • Woolworths was 28% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Woolworths had better prices on 7 of the 64 lines compared. Of those 4 were on special.
  • Coles had 20 lines on special that were more expensive than Costco.

Liquor

Compared to First Choice Liquor (only 6 lines compared due to data availability)

  • First Choice was 6% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • First Choice had a better price on 1 of the 6 lines compared. That item was on special.
  • First Choice had 3 lines on special that were more expensive than Costco.

Compared to Dan Murphy’s

  • Dan Murphy’s was 7% more expensive than Costco on average.
  • Dan Murphy’s had better prices on 1 of the 8 lines compared. That item was not noted as on special.

  1. I think another commenter mentioned this, but I think it bears mentioning again – the prices are good, but the quality is amazing. The meat, fish, produce and kirkland branded items are of such a high standard that Costco is my choice irrespective of price.

    Love the loaded trolley!

    1. 100% agree with you on that. It is only since Costco came about that Coles and Woolworths started stocking ‘MSA graded’ beef. Of course even not all MSA graded beef is the same. Costco applies minimum marble score requirements to their suppliers that are above that of the minimum required to be considered MSA graded. Everything else is of the highest quality as you mention.   2. I agree also. The meat, fish, food and Kirkland products are amazing quality. Just on that the membership is worth it. Also, white goods and big screen televisions are a few hundred less on average than the major retaliers. One of those purchases alone justifies 3 years of membership.
