As you can see, Costco won on most fronts. Where they didn’t win on price, we are generally of the opinion you are getting better quality for the price you pay. As an example, we have had bad experiences with ‘fresh’ salmon from Colworths and only ever buy fresh salmon from a fish monger. Typical prices for fresh salmon fillets at the fish monger are higher the big two supermarkets and Costco.

In regards to the dish washing tables, neither Coles nor Woolworths sell Cascade brand. We use these all the time and they are as good as the standard Finish Powerballs dish washing tablets from our experience. Coles’ cheapest price on Finish was 0.52 per tablet and cheapest tablet was Coles ‘Smart Buy’ at $0.20 per tablet. Woolworths’ cheapest price on Finish was $0.50 per tablet and cheapest tablet was Homebrand at $0.18 per tablet. Cascade’s dishwashing tablets are a definite alternative to Finish Powerballs and are a great buy even at the regular price of $17.99 per 90ct pack (0.20 per tablet).

I am chalking another basket win up to Costco.

  1. Mrs Cackle says:

Best buys at Costco for us are:
Kirkland toilet paper – in bulk 30 rolls 2 ply
    Sundried tomatoes in sunflower oil
    Organic strawberry jam
    dried prunes
    tomato sauce
    Maple syrup
    Turkish bread rolls

    all great quality items!

    • Corey says:

Hi Mrs Cackle…we liked the Kirkland toilet paper too, but found they were slightly wider than the standard Australian roll and bigger in diameter. This meant that they did not fit into on of our TP holders in our house and it wasn’t perfect on the other, so it was back to a standard roll for us. Still a great buy if the work for you.
