Alf Stratton, the founder of Stratco, was a young plumber with his own home-based business in the early 1940’s. Over the years, he worked on many houses and businesses with satisfied customers. In 1948, Alf Stratton set up Stratco Metal Pty Ltd because he saw a need for higher quality sheet metal products in Australia. Mr. Stratton felt that importing these supplies was a costly, unreliable, and  expensive, so he went about finding a better solution.

His solution became an undertaking that truly paid off. The businessman took pains to manufacture sheet metal products on his own. For a time, his company was to install these products exclusively. Following years of dedicated effort, Mr. Stratton was able to incorporate Stratco Metal Pty. Ltd. in 1948 and begin manufacturing sheet metal products. The company was quite successful, and soon grew to manufacturing a large variety of building and renovation items across Australia for suppliers, contractors, and others in the construction industry.

In 1967, Alf Stratton Jr. took over his father’s legacy. He was excited to embrace new opportunities, and began working to grow Stratco and focus on national and international expansions. To do this, he worked to establish manufacturing centres for each location, providing local jobs and locally sourced goods to builders, homeowners, and others in the home improvement field. By 1975, Stratco had successfully introduced its products to Victoria and become a competitive driving force in the construction and renovation industry.  Soon after, building and mining industries began to source their materials and supplies, creating a new reputation as a solid leader in industrial supplies. Since that time, builders have relied on Stratco for all kinds of home and building supplies, and become a leader in the steel roofing market as well. IN 1992, the company went national, and rapidly established a following in New Zealand. Today, Stratco has manufacturing plants in Christchurch, Napier and Auckland. Stratco also has a large network of home improvement stores throughout the country.

Stratco can now boast over seventy years experience in the building and home renovation markets, and it one of the largest producers and suppliers of quality building and home improvement products in Australia. Today, the manufacturing portion of the business is now housed in New Zealand, while the corporate offices of Stratco now concentrate on new product offerings.

Stratco continues to expand its location and recently opened a brand new store in Hoppers Crossing, Victoria. There is a new Mount Barker store that recently opened its doors in South Australia, and in New South Wales, a new location opened last year. This year the Crestmead Stratco was also renovated, doubling in size (and product capacity) in order to offer a much larger range of offerings to local customers.
